Dear Beach Days, This Is How I Care for My Skin
·

A body care ritual by Cathy, Caribbean‑born and raised.
Growing up in Saint Lucia, the sea was more than a backdrop - it was my escape, my calm, my peace. Salt in the air, warm sun on my skin, the kind of peace you carry with you. The beach isn’t just where I go to unwind — it’s where I return to myself.
But Caribbean sun isn’t soft. And even though I grew up in it, I’ve learned that skin needs to be cared for — before, during, and long after a day at the beach.
I created Melavive for skin like mine: skin that knows saltwater, knows heat, knows sun — and still wants to be comforted, nourished, and supported. Here’s how I care for my skin beachside and beyond, using our hydration-first trio: Di Seamoss Vibe.
Step 1: Exfoliate Before, Not After
I always exfoliate the night before. Not after. It’s the gentlest way to prep without disrupting my barrier after a day in the sun.
Half Moon Bay Body Polish uses coconut shell and bamboo extract to gently buff away buildup, while mandelic acid softly smooths texture. The skin is left feeling soft, never stripped — just ready to take in hydration where it counts.
Step 2: Hydrate When Skin Is Still Damp
After my morning rinse or shower, while skin is still dewy, I apply Piton Glow Body Serum. It’s a hydration step, yes — but more importantly, it’s a treatment. With turmeric and niacinamide, it helps calm and even the look of tone over time.
Step 3: Seal with Butter-Soft Comfort
Once my serum sets in, I press Coco Calypso Body Buttuh into the skin — focusing on my elbows, knees, shoulders, and chest. It’s whipped and rich, packed with ceramides and coconut oil, but never heavy. It seals everything in while still letting my skin breathe.
The effect? Cared-for skin. Nourished. Held. Still soft by sunset.
Step 4: SPF Is Essential
When I do step outside, I always finish with sunscreen. Every exposed inch — chest, arms, legs, feet — gets full coverage. And I reapply, always.
Melanin-rich skin still needs daily sun protection. Not just for the short term, but to prevent long-term dark spots and uneven tone.
Step 5: Rinse Gently + Return to Ritual
After the beach, I rinse with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. No harsh scrubs, no stripping. Just a gentle reset. Then I go back to what I know:
-
A layer of Piton Glow while skin is still damp
-
A soft press of Coco Calypso where it’s needed
If my skin feels a little sun-kissed or tender, I pause any active treatments and let hydration take the lead.
My Beach Day Body Care Checklist
- Exfoliate the night before with Half Moon Bay Polish
- Hydrate post-shower with Piton Glow Serum
- Seal with Coco Calypso Body Buttuh
- Apply SPF generously (and reapply!)
- Rinse, hydrate, and restore
Growing up on Caribbean shores, I learned early: your skin remembers the sun. It remembers the salt and the wind. It remembers how you cared for it when no one was watching.
Every beach day is part of your skin’s story. And my hope is that with each ritual — each scrub, each serum, each layer of butter — you protect that story and let it shine.
Not just in photos, but in how your skin feels — hydrated, nourished, and deeply loved.
